SMELLS LIKE TEAM SPIRIT
Looking as hot as ever in his shorts and hoodie, his hair perfectly styled and a mischievous smirk gracing his charming face, Chris stood in front of the group of teens. " Alright, here's the deal: we're gonna split you into two teams." He pulled a list out of his pocket. " If I call out your name, go stand over there." He pointed to one side of the campfire. " Elizabeth, Noah, Flare, MacKenzie, Scott, Bridgette and Izzy." He threw a rolled-up piece of green fabric at them. " You are now the Screaming Gophers." Then he turned to the remaining teens. " Victor, Madelyn, Prissy, Axel, Maddox and Serenity." He threw a rolled-up piece of red fabric at the team. " You guys are now officially the Killer Bass." He began to lead them towards the cabins. " Alright campers, you and your team will be on camera in all public areas at all times during this competition. You will be able to share your private thoughts on tape with video diaries anytime you want. Let the audience at home know what you're really thinking or just get something off your chest!" Then he pointed at two quite dilapidated cabins. " Here we are, kids. Gophers in east, Bass in west." Notes: Participation in this thread is optional. This thread will be edited as more characters are accepted. It is not too late to add your character to the first season. [/blockquote]

Flare yelped and fumbled with the Screaming Gophers banner that Chris had thrown at the group she found herself with. It unraveled in her hands to reveal a gopher standing on it's back legs with fists up in a fighting stance. It looked... well, honestly, the gopher looked a little demonic. Any other time, she'd find it cool. The fact that, not only was she separated from her new-found friends but on the same team as Elizabeth and Scott, kind of dampened her mood.
Still, no reason to show how miserable she really was. With a heavy sigh, she said aloud, "Meh, I'd rather be a chipmunk. So much cuter, you know?" Chris pointed out the cabins and Flare snorted with a shake of her head. "This'll be fun. Two guys in one half, four girls in the other. What could possibly go wrong?" The sarcasm was heavy, but therapeutic. It certainly made her feel better.

Brushing her bangs from her eyes, MacKenzie glanced at the wadded up ball of cloth in one of her new teammate' hands. It had unfurled to show what was supposed to be a Gopher. It clearly looked mutated and creepy. The team names didn't exactly help either. The Screaming Gophers. The Killer Bass. She couldn't help but raise a brow. Who exactly was in charge of naming the teams anyway. She thought a moment, then decided it was probably better not to ask. She glanced over at their team banner again. Her brows still furrowed in confusion and the slightest hint of amusement. Her teammates for the rest of the season looked to be an interesting bunch, not that she really minded them. Least she didn't get miss washed up Primadonna on her team.
She moved a bit closer to the girl who held their banner, getting a better look at it. She placed a hand on her hips and leaned over a bit. "Haha yeah. Maybe even a squirrel. That clearly is not a gopher." She replied with a laugh. She then turned away from the banner as they moved to the cabins. They were for lack of a better word, run down. She couldn't help but wrinkle her nose at the condition of their supposed living spaces. She simply shook her head and sighed. It really was better than nothing, but if it came down to it she had the materials to sleep outside. This was surely going to be an interesting season. She merely shrugged and looked around at the cabins. The being filmed part was new but at the same time not unwelcome. "Eh, not like it's anything I'm not used to. Should be fun." She spoke up, happily. She was ready to get the competition started.[/blockquote]

Flare gave her teammate a horrified, scandalized look. "Oh dear God, no. I hate squirrels. Little demon jerk-faces throw acorns at me and my friends. I run them over in revenge." She shuddered dramatically and dropped the banner, leaving it on the ground. If anyone cared about it, they'd pick it up themselves. Or not, considering just who her teammates were.
She gave Mackenzie a confused look. "But the brochure said that we were staying in a five-star hotel. Why did you bring camping gear if you didn't think you needed it?" Flare gave the cabins another look and shook her head. "On second thought, good idea. I usually sleep on roofs, but I don't trust these ones to not collapse under me in the middle of the night."

MacKenzie didn't know how to react. At first she laughed, then she frowned. She couldn't condone hurting animals. She wasn't a vegetarian herself, but she didn't like thinking about animals getting hurt for no reason. She settled for a simple understanding nod. She glanced down at the banner that had been left in the dirt. She shrugged, figuring it'd be picked up by someone else if it was important. "Yeah, but anything's better than that mutated excuse for a gopher. I almost feel sorry for it." She replied with a simple shrug. She raised a brow at the question, thinking back to the brochure she was given. She did feel kind of sheepish now. Then she simply shrugged once more. "I don't know, it just simply pays to be prepared for anything. You never know what could happen. I'm not really used to staying at fancy hotels. My family just camps a lot so it's just second nature now." She explained, casually. Her family preferred camping than paying for hotels. She was practically raised to love and prefer the outdoors to anything. Aside from her own home of course. "Yeah, now that I actually get a look at these cabin. I'd say you're better off camping outside. I'd rather not have the roof cave in on me when I'm trying to sleep. It's really not fun at all." She replied with a laugh. It wasn't all bad anyway. It was interesting to say the least. "I honestly prefer sleeping outside under the stars but whatever floats their boat I guess." She added after a moment, hazel gaze focused on their cabin. It really didn't look safe at all.[/blockquote]

Izzy looked at her teammates, studying them all. She had little interest in most of them. Elizabeth seemed like a rather stuck-up person. Probably wouldn't last long. Maybe she had good stories. Scott didn't LOOK as if he were used to the outdoors... he was a bit pale... but so was she. Noah looked intelligent, but he probably didn't have as high of an I.Q. as she did...
"OOH! A squirrel!" she laughed, watching it run through a tree, but immediately, she looked back at the girls holding the flag. Both of them looked like they might be fun. She sauntered over to them and picked up the flag from the ground. "Izzy likes creepy looking gophers. She thinks that they're ferocious looking. Besides, Izzy would rather be a fuzzy mutated gopher than a slimy fish, haha," she pointed out.
"I had a roof cave in on me once. That was part of the reason that the RCMP started searching for me. I remember it like it was yesterday. My brother and I were in the kitchen, and then BOOM! Something exploded, which totally wasn't my fault, but ANYWAY it made the roof crack and crumble. Then BAM!The roof came tumbling down on us. Thankfully, I survived with only a scratch. But my brother, he died."
She paused for a minute before tapping her lip. "Actually, I think the proper phrase is 'died laughing.' I always forget that part at the end."

"How fearsome." Noah said sarcastically as the two team names were announced. Well, at least he wasn't on the same team as the charming girl who had threatened to kill him. Not that he was afraid of her. He just preferred having all his body intact. "Did you come up with those all by yourself?" He joined his teammates to find two of the girls on his team discussing how they'd rather be chipmunks. Noah raised an eyebrow at them, then spoke. "Definitely." he agreed sarcastically. "Chipmunks are so much better than Gophers."

Flare stared at Izzy in horror during the pause. Her brother died? And then the redhead finished with 'died laughing', but Flare didn't really know whether she was serious or not. "When you say 'died laughing', do you mean he died with a smile on his face or he 'just about' died laughing, as in he was laughing too hard but is still alive?" She hoped Izzy hadn't lost a sibling. While Flare had never really felt loss before, she didn't want anyone else to go through it.
Noah came up to them then and made a sarcastic comment on chipmunks being better than gophers. Flare rolled her eyes and placed her hands on her hips, giving him a look in reply. "Let me put it this way, Egghead. Which would you rather be called: sweet and cuddly and cute, or an irritating nuisance that eats lettuce and carrots but rarely gets caught?"

The girl with the streaks in her hair turned to him, and replied to his comment on Gophers versus Chipmunks. He raised an eyebrow, almost amused. Then he rolled his eyes. "Oh, gee, they're both so great." Clearly, this girl had never cracked a book on animals. Gophers and Chipmunks could be equally vicious - they were both wild animals, after all. But either way they were still a pretty stupid thing to name a team after. It would have been a better idea to let the teams name themselves. Surely a group of teenagers could think up a better name than some washed-out middle-aged celebrity. Well, maybe not, but his team would - they had him, after all. "Oh yes, cute and cuddly would definitely be preferable." Noah retorted sarcastically. "B but why bother changing anything? You certainly seem to fit your description of a gopher more than of a chipmunk."

Bridgette shyly leaned in as the discussion about the choice of representative was questioned. She loved all animals so she couldn't understand what the problem was. She widened her eyes in horror when Flare said that she'd run down the poor little creatures. "C'mon, guys. Gophers and chipmunks are equally great", she said as she tilted her head at the sillhouette of the animal on their banner. "Besides, at least we don't have the fish", she said as she giggled and pointed at the other team.
Bridgette widened her eyes as she listened to Izzy's story. Surely it all couldn't be true? Either way, she sure was a wild girl! She only had conservative friends, so being thrown into this mix of teens was a little exciting. She wanted to listen to everyone's personality and get to know them better. Izzy seemed to be fun. Flare and Noah seemed to already be at each others throats. She took a mental note on not getting on their bad side.

Oh, she liked this guy. Flare smirked at Noah's sarcastic reply about which he'd rather be called, especially him basically saying she was like a gopher. She forced her mouth into a pout and puffed her cheeks out to simulate being irritated. "Let's get one thing straight here, buddy." she pretended to growl. "I hate carrots and lettuce with a passion." Then she grinned, losing her annoyed persona. "I totally agree that I'm an irritating nuisance, though. It's part of what I pride myself on."
Then Bridgette got into the conversation about the team name. Flare paused to consider it before shuddering. "Okay, yeah, Bridgette has a point. I'd rather be a gopher than a fish. I hate water." No need to bore them with the details why. What business is it of theirs if she has a panic attack whenever she gets more than three feet into the water? [/blockquote]

Flare hated water? I guess that made a little sense, especially with the fiery red streaks in her hair. But what would cause her to hate water? First chipmunks, now water. It seemed like she disapproved of everything Bridgette loved. She didn't want to pry, especially in front of everyone, but Bridgette was concerned. Maybe there was a good reason behind it.
"Why do you hate water?", she asked a little quietly. There, she said it. Maybe Flare couldn't swim. Bridgette could definitely help her out if that was the case. She was a very skilled surfer and an extremely strong swimmer. She looked at Flare and faintly smiled, hoping she didn't overstep the boundaries. They had just met after all.

"Sweet!", Cody then looked over at the other Screaming Gophers, "This is cool, cuz now I'm with the total hottie team!", he then turned to his team happily, "I always thought Squirrels were a bit cooler than Gophers, but ya know, Gophers are pretty cool too. Heheh."
Cody then smiled as he gazed upon the other members of the Gophers team, a somewhat sheepish looking smile to be precise. He almost seemed to not know what else to say.
(OOC: I know his name isn't yet on the main post, but he's on the Gophers so whatever XD)

Bridgette raised her eyes slightly at the mention of the 'total hottie team'. She was more amused than anything. He didn't really seem the type, but she really hoped he wouldn't objectify the women here. That's one thing that she wouldn't stand for. And if he was, there were plenty of girls on the Gophers who would help sort him, or any of the guys for that matter, out.
"Cody, right?", Bridgette asked as she tried to be polite and remember his name from the dock. "I agree. Gophers are super cool", she said as she grinned at her newly acquainted team mate. She thought that if the team was going to be a successful one, they needed to get to know each other and at least take an interest in them.

"Yeah, that's my name alright!", Cody replied to Bridgette with, he was quite happy to have someone talk to him, "And oh totally! Gophers can totally be cool!", he then thought of something else to say, like a sort of weak pick up line, but he still sounded somewhat nervous as he said it, "By the way, you also call me the Codester or the Codemeister if you want..I'm cool with both, heheh. So, what did your parents name you?"
